If you ask me, unfortunately (soon?!), we will have to move -over- to distributed systems and be networked that way; if the powers-to-be are to have their way (with inventing “Internet 2.0”), meh.

With it, it’s possible to have (almost) full functionality in your browser (for example, NOT disabling JavaScript and /or -any- scripting; not (!) having to use 3rd party Add-Ons) & still be (somewhat!) protected. It *does* require quite a bit of work, even configuring their default file (I believe it’s made with the Torbrowser in mind, so there’s a lot that’s disabled – even, not enabled – that can be changed).

This way, we can use just ONE Add-On, for blocking ads, such as: 1) Adblock Plus (& their Element Hiding Helper), or 2) uBlock Origin. On the gHacks user.js GitHub Wiki page, there is a post about loading the file onto your Android device WITHOUT having to root it, it’s pretty cool!..

Anyway, just sharing the info..:) It’s *great* to be able to browse (completely!) ad-free and pop-up free – even on mobile devices, it’s a great experience. Hope it helps!

Believe it or not, even Ghostery (the company of the writer) earns money by sending the effect it has on webpages to a central database. Big companies can then buy this data to check their own websites. Also Ghostery creates reports that are sold. The net of trackers is everywhere. And Europe is about to stop all this.
